PORTLAND, ORE. (March 29, 2007) – The 10th Annual ‘Harry’s Fresh Foods Chef’s Dinner Extraordinaire,’ held March 15 at the Oregon Convention Center, raised more than $244,000 for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation Oregon Chapter, marking a record year for the annual fundraiser. The event featured a seven-course, Northwest-inspired dinner, each course prepared by a local chef, including Tom Hurley of Hurley’s Restaurant, Ron Hendren of Harry’s Fresh Foods, Dale Lee of Hudson’s Bar & Grill and Tucker Mortensen of Chef Tucker’s Patisserie. The masters of ceremonies were Bobby and Jamie Deen, hosts of the Food Network’s Road Tasted and sons of Paula Deen, the host of Paula’s Home Cooking.
More than 300 attendees participated in silent and live auctions throughout the evening, bidding on a range of items, including:
The Ultimate Cocktail Party – a three-hour sunset cocktail cruise aboard Rod Harris’ (founder of Harry’s Fresh Foods, title sponsor of the event) yacht for 10 couples, sold for $18,000 and was quickly matched with a second cruise for $18,000 and a third for $10,000 .
Paula’s Party– tickets for 10 to see Paula Deen’s new TV show in Savannah, Ga. raised $5,000. This package was quickly sold again for an additional $5,000.
Scandinavian Adventure – a 10-day trip to a quaint fishing village in Denmark went for $4,500.
The Opportunity to Make a Difference – a pure paddle-raise to help fund the cure for cystic fibrosis brought in more than $80,000.
“We are blown away at the success of this year’s event and the tremendous support from all of our sponsors and volunteers,” said Janeen Olsen, executive director for Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, Oregon Chapter. “The funds raised will allow us to continue our fight to find a cure for cystic fibrosis.”
